Why is California the Best State to Play Poker?
California is a great state to play live poker. Las Vegas is right next door, but for those who aren’t interested in the hustle and bustle of the biggest gambling city on the planet, then California is the place for you. Most people would likely think that the biggest casino in the world is in Las Vegas, but actually Foxwoods has the most slot machines of any casino in the world, and the third-largest poker room in the world, after the Commerce. The Commerce casino is the largest card club in the world. California is also home to some of the biggest poker tournaments every year including the LA Poker Classic Championships, the Bicycle Casino Legends of Poker, and the Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament.
The Commerce Casino is the biggest casino on the planet and is a great place to play all types and stakes of poker. The Commerce offers limit, no limit, 7 card stud and Omaha 8 cash games at all hours of the day. The no limit hold’em games range from $1/$2 blinds up to $20/$40. The Commerce Casino also offers many poker tournaments every day for the tournament player. The casino is also home to the LA Poker Classic Championships and the California State Poker Championships. If you are ever in California you should definitely make a point of playing at the Commerce Casino.
The LA Poker Classic Championships are held every year at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California. This year the buy-in for the event was $10K and the prize pool was $6,681,600. This year Andrew Cimpan took home the $1,686,760 first place prize. California poker magic.
The Bicycle Casino Legends of Poker tournament is a World Poker Tour event that takes place every year at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California. The tournament has a $10K buy-in and last year’s event generated a prize pool worth $3,520,738.
The Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament is a World Poker Tour, $10,000 buy-in event that takes place every year at the Bay 101 Casino in San Jose. The last event ended on March 20, 2009, with Steve Brecher winning $1,025,000 for his first place finish. The total prize pool of the event was $3,714,500.
California hosts just as many World Poker Tour events as Nevada every year, which goes to show that California is an important state in the live poker world. Being home to the biggest casino in the world, the Commerce Casino, and hosting many of the biggest, highest profile tournaments in live poker shows why California is one of the best places in the United States to play poker

Commerce is actually the largest “card club” in the world. Foxwoods is actually the largest full fledged “casino” in the world. Be sure to differentiate those two terms, they are entirely different things.
